Temple of Sacred Tooth located in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka holds the relic of left upper canine tooth of Lord Buddha himself.

Temple of Sacred Tooth is one of the popular Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka and is popularly known as Sri Dalada Maligawa in Sri Lanka. The temple of Sacred Tooth is situated in the royal complex in the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka. The City Kandy was an ancient kingdom during the lifetime of Lord Buddha. The temple of Sacred Tooth is considered quite important since this temple holds the relic of the real tooth of the Lord Buddha. Sri Dalada Malagawa is believed to hold the left upper canine tooth of Lord Buddha. The relics of Buddha sacred tooth hold quite important role in the political reign in Sri Lankan Government since it is believed that whoever holds the relic of the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha holds the power of government of the country.

Vaishali is one of the Eight Great Pilgrimage sites of Buddhism religion. Vaishali was a city located in the Bihar, India. Vaishali holds great importance according to history of Buddhist tradition. It is believed that Gautama Buddha preached his last sermon before the departure of Lord Buddha. It was in Vaishali that Lord Buddha announced that he would be approaching the Mahaparinirvana before leaving to Kushinagar where he achieved Mahaparinirvana. One of the great events that took place during the lifetime of Gautama Buddha was for the first time; women were inducted in the Sangha as a bhikshuni. Vaishali was also an important place for Jain and Hindu people.

Shravasti - Eight Important Pilgrimage Site

Lord Buddha had spent most of his monastic life in the Gangetic plains of Northern India and Southern Nepal and its surrounding areas. Thus, these important places are deemed most important since these places had experienced some of the great events of Lord Buddha. Thus, four sites are most worthy of pilgrimage of Buddhist followers and Gautama Buddha is said to have identified these four sites most worthy and these sites are called Four Most Important Pilgrimage Sites. They are Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, Sarnath, Kushinagar. But in later Buddhist tradition, other four sites were given a special status since these sites had experienced some certain miracles by Lord Buddha. Thus, these eight sites are known as “The Eight Great Places” or Attha-mahathanani. These four sites are Shravasti, Rajgir, Sankassa, and Vaishali.

Sanchi is one of few cities in India which have still protected the great number of monasteries, stupa, and also a stone book which illustrates the teachings of Buddha. Sanchi is situated at the Raisen District in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India, approximately 9 km from the ancient town of Vidisha. Sanchi is quite popular of its numerous ruins of Stupas, temples and monasteries. But “The Great Stupa” is the main attraction of Sanchi and is believed to be the oldest stone structure in India. This Stupa was originally authorized by Emperor Ashoka the Great in the 3rd century BCE.
